The Dental Home is intended to provide a place for your child's dental care other than the Emergency Room.
You, as parents, can make your child's first dental visit positive and enjoyable. You can explain to or inform your child about what to expect at the dentist if he/she is old enough. They should also be informed that the dental staff will be ready to answer any questions regarding the procedure, if needed.
It is recommended that you do not use words like "needle", "shot", "pull", "drill" or "hurt" that is likely to create unnecessary fear in your child. We, at Ole Brook Pediatric Dentistry, ensure that we use pleasant and non-frightening words to convey the same message to your child.
You can accompany and stay with your child during the initial examination. However, we recommend that you allow our dental staff to accompany your child on the consecutive visits, so as to build a rapport with your child when you are not present. The aim is to gain your child's confidence and overcome any apprehension. We have a team of experts who are experienced in helping children overcome anxiety.
It is quite common for children to have separation anxiety, so we suggest you do not worry if your child exhibits certain negative behavior. According to studies, children over the age of three react more positively when permitted to experience the dental visit on their own and in an environment designed for children.
We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
